Location
Abezza Resort is the closest Jungle resort to Belize International Airport, (30 miles), a 50-minute drive, or about a one-hour boat ride from San Pedro, Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker. Abezza is centrally located on the mainland to Belize's main attractions and adventure tours. It strikes the perfect balance for discerning travelers looking for a secluded haven to relax and reconnect with nature while still being able to enjoy curated tours offered and coordinated for Resort guests only.
There are daily flights to Belize City from Houston and Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, South Carolina (approx. 2 hours), California, Toronto and Calgary, Canada (approximately 4 to 5 hours) as well as from South America via El Salvador and Panama and from Europe, via Miami or Houston, rates depending on season. More flights are being added to our destination. Belize is also an easy connection from Mexico for European travelers. With the new additional of Tulum's international airport, there will be added avenues for travel to Belize.

HOW IT ALL STARTED
A dream to retire in Belize has evolved into the First Resort, Spa and Destination Spa in the Country.
Abezza Resort was started by a doctor and his wife around 1973. Dr. Merickston Nicholson, MD was originally from Charlotteville, Tobago. He studied medicine in Zurich Switzerland where he met his wife Anna Nicholson, a fashion designer from Austria.
The couple settled in the midwest USA with the dream of retiring in the tropics. By chance they saw land for sale in Belize, the only English speaking country in Central America, bordered by the Caribbean Sea. While practicing cancer detection and treatment, their hearts were unraveling the plantation of coconuts and natural remedies for curing and treating ailments. Several times a year they journeyed to Belize to build the foundation of what is now Abezza Resort.
The property opened in 1986 as the first Resort, Spa and Destination Spa in the country of Belize.
Abezza Resort is embedded in Belize’s culture and history. The Resort has evolved into an environmentally friendly oasis of charm and distinction.

Wildlife
The diverse wildlife of Belize.
Kinkajous can be heard and occasionally seen going branches to branches. Since these marsupials are nocturnal, you will have the best chance to see them at dusk, if at all, as the night sets in quickly. At night time you may only see red eyes glaring down at you. Observe other wildlife in its surrounding settings. A healthy respect to co exist with the wildlife means maintaining your distance and resisting the need to feed wild animals.
